Day 6 - I've never sweat so much before...besides band camp.

Wow, pure cardio is what the workout was called and let me tell you, Shaun T doesn't lie. It was 38 grueling minutes of pure cardio. Heart pumping, chest pain, sweat it out cardio. It's hard to lift my legs, arms and basically my entire body. No pain no gain, right? I sure hope so.

Courtney and I are really pushing each other harder with every workout. I don't know how i'm going to get through this next week without her. Every time i have to stop and i look over and she's pushing through it it makes me push harder. I think it works the same way with her. Rio couldn't make it today.

On the plus side I had a massage today and it was the best massage that i can remember ever getting. No frills, no cucumber lemon grass water, no "relaxation room" that makes me feel like i'm in a cave...just strong hands on my sore body. It was wonderful. I was so blissful afterwards that i tried to leave my car running and lock the keys in it when i went to the post office later. I don't think that i returned to the real world until about 2:30. And i had been at work since 1. Oh well, whatever.

Getting pumped for day 7!

Day 4 - Recovery is Sweet

Day 4 was cardio recovery... definitely my favorite so far because I could breath through the entire workout without gasping. It was lots of stretches, and slow coordinated movements. If anyone knows me they know that i'm really not that coordinated...and I didn't fall once...SUCCESS!!!

I did feel the workout even though it was a recovery.

Ready for more heart pumping action on day 5!

Day 3 - Will I ever like cardio?

Will I ever like cardio? I think not. Today i got a text message from Rio at 12:43 pm, it said "I do not feel good." I'm right there with ya sista. Earlier when i had talked to Courtney on the phone we had about the same conversation. We're hurting, but we know that the results will be worth it.

Today might have been a fraction of a bit better, but I can't get over the dizziness that i experience about half way through. Maybe I just need to drink more water, cause I am definitely eating enough.

About 10 minutes into the workout my feet start cramping up, and I look down and notice that I'm wearing my super worn out sneakers that I trekked around Israel in. I don't think that I was thinking when i laced those bad boys up. So I went home and put some better shoes on.

Ok, so now we're cooking...except that Courtney's floor is slippery. Super slippery...it's like a slip-n-slide from when you were 8 years old. We do all these exercises in the plank position and I can hardy do them cause my feet keep slipping out from under me. We're going to get it figured out soon.

Workout over...we're beat. Beat to a pulp and the pulp is so dry that there's no more juice coming out of it. I just know that it's going to get harder. Rio goes upstairs to get me something and Courtney and I have the bright idea of scaring her when she goes back down. So we're hiding and she starts to come down the stairs, then she goes back up, and starts to come back down, then goes back up. She does this about 4 times then says, "I'm coming I just need ammo." Courtney and I look at each other and are like, "ammo for what?" Ok, she's coming down the stairs, we're crouched down like hidden dragon, we spring up to scare her and she gets us point blank...with a full glass of water. We're screaming, my foot slips on the slippery floor and Courtney pushes me in the side and down I go. It was so funny that we can't breath, I was lying on the slippery, dirty floor gasping for breath and snorting cause it was just so funny. We did get Rio back, each of us got her with a mostly full glass of water.

Today was a success and I'm feeling that even if we don't get as ripped as the people in the video, our friendship will be much stronger after this.

Day 2 - Three times is two to many

Cardio and I have a love-hate relationship. Actually, I should say that it's a hate relationship. I hate it, there is no love involved in this relationship.

We did the same warm up as last time. But we did it three times and each time we were supposed to go faster. Had i known this I would not have gone top speed the first time. Cause it just went downhill from there.

Ok, now we start the circuit. I really wish that I had known that we were going to do this circuit three times, although i should have known because we did the warm up three times. Part of this circuit was an exercise called "rock climbing." to do this you have to basically high step in place and reach up and grab at the air with alternating hands. It's harder than it sounds. At one point Rio says, "I can't go any higher," and Courtney retorts back, "you look like your milking a cow." That makes us laugh, and we have to stop for a second. At the end of this circuit we fall on the floor, literally. Now is the time we pressed the pause button, for the first time.

Ok, we re-coup, and press play. This second circuit is all about sports; we were shooting basketball's, skiing down a mountain, doing basketball drills and the last parts was planks on steroids. Again, we did this three times. This was the hardest circuit because we were continually stopping, laying on the ground and just attempting to breath, which was very hard at this point. At one point, when we were all flayed on the ground Courtney decides to announce that "if we're going to lay on the floor I should probably clean it sometime." Thanks Courtney, not only can I not move, my face is plastered to your floor. Whatever, I'm going to have to take a shower anyway when I get home.

I would have to say that the highlight of this circuit is that I made it through the last stretches.

Day 2, done, day 3...bring it on.

Day 1 - OH MY GOSH!!!

Um, so, yeah. Today was the fit test. That was probably one of the hardest 3o minutes of my workout life.

*a side note: I did 1 hour of yogalaties right before doing this. Not the best idea I've ever had.

They start out with a warmup, which honestly, was harder than some of my previous workouts. Ok, no problem, let's stretch. That was nice. Then there are these 8 ridiculous exercises. You do each exercise for one minute, as many as you can, then write down how many you did. You get a one minute break in between. That sounds all well and good, but it's not. It's hard...I'm not going to lie. We all made it through, which is a success in my book. Then we get to the end stretch...I can't lift my arms, I can't stretch. I can barely stand. What the heck...really?

After the workout is over, we all feel like lunch is going to visit us again, and soon. Rio decides that she's going to power walk around the neighborhood. How she has the energy, I just don't know, but power to her. Courtney plops on the floor, leans against the couch and just starts shaking her head. she manages to say, in an extremely weak voice i might add, "I can't talk, I'm going to throw up." So i give her her water and sit with her. I talk, she listens, i think, and she's just sitting there. It comes time that I have to leave. She looks up at me and says, weakly, "Can you please find Rio and send her home?"

I later find out that she was on the floor for 45 minutes before she can get up.

This was just the fit test...let's see what's in store for tomorrow. Cardio...yay.

The Insane Trio

Our trio consists of 3 young women: Courtney, Rio and Rachael. I, Rachael, will be posting updates daily about our progress.

We ordered the Insanity Workout DVD and this blog will be about our progress, triumphs and probably some failures along the way.

A little about us...
Courtney: 26 year old wildlife biologist from Gainesville, FL, also a Master's student at the University of Florida.
Rio: 24 year old wildlife biologist from Cocoa, FL, also a Master's student at the University of Florida.
Rachael: 25 year old undergrad at the University of Florida studying Food & Resource Economics.

How we know each other: Rachael and Courtney went to high school together and met in band (yeah, we're band geeks). Courtney and Rio met in undergrad at the University of Florida and are now roommates. We now live within 1/2 mile of each other.

How this workout regime is going to work:
Every night at 7pm we will workout to the DVD's at Courtney and Rio's place. Rachael will then drag her ass home to collapse on the couch while Courtney and Rio are already comfortable collapsed on their own couch.

Here goes nothing...
